Each wavelength colour can either carry a different service type, or simply be used to multiply the traffic carrying capacity of the fibre, while the service adaptation functions can be used to provide compatibility with Layer2 and Layer 1 switched networks together with Synchronisation and timing in a highly dense chassis in a range of sizes.
